Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Due to the paste-like consistency of the sample it could not be filled into the mould.

Using a spatula the sample was made into a triangular pile of 250 mm length on a non-combustible and non-porous plate.

The pile was placed crossways to the air stream in the fume cupboard. The air stream was not changed during the performance of the test. Around the testing device a wind protection shield was positioned. Then the attempt was made to ignite the pile at one end.

The flame for the ignition was a natural gas burner flame with a diameter of 5 mm.

After the flame application to one end of the pile forming of a clear yellowish molten mass was visible. An ignition of the molten mass substance was not detected.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item is not highly flammable according to the criteria in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, test method A.10.
Executive summary:

The flammability of MDEA-Esterquat C18 unsatd. was determiend according to EU method A.10. After the flame application to one end of the pile forming of a clear yellowish molten mass was visible. An ignition of the molten mass substance was not detected. According to the guideline the execution of the main test was not necessary.

Description of key information

non-flammable (EU method A.10)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of MDEA-Esterquat C18 unsatd. was determined according to EU method A.10. After the flame application to one end of the pile forming of a clear yellowish molten mass was visible. An ignition of the molten mass substance was not detected. According to the guideline the execution of the main test was not necessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In a preliminary screening test according to EC no. 440/2008, A.10., the flammability of MDEA-Esterquat C18 unsatd. was investigated. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test substance was observed. With this result the outcome of the screening test is negative and according to CLP classification criteria the substance is not classified.
