Multilateral work on chemical safety

The Agency's international cooperation also relates to the EU commitments for the sound management of chemicals under multilateral agreements under the auspices of the United Nations. These include the Stockholm Convention (POPs), Rotterdam Convention (PIC), International Conference on Chemicals Management (SAICM), Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) and the WHO International Programme on Chemicals Safety (IPCS) as well as the UN's work on the Globally Harmonised System of classification and labelling.

In this multilateral area, the Agency supports the European Commission in its activities. In the case of the Rotterdam Convention, the Agency's role is defined by the PIC Regulation on the import and export of certain hazardous substances. The support that the Agency provides in relation to the EU's multilateral activities varies from inputs to meeting preparations to sending experts to the meetings to organising information sessions at specific events at the request of the Commission.
