Description of key information

Data have been obtained from secondary source (EPA databank), including several pubblication.

For short-term toxicity to fish many data for fresh and marine ecosystem are available.

LC50 for freshwaterfish of 390 µg/L and LC50 1500 µg/L for marine water fish have been choosen as the most relevant and conservative data.

FRESH WATER

The most relevant and conservative study defines a mortality endpoint LC50 of 390 µg/l. This value was measured by chemical analysis. 2,4 -dinitrophenol C-14 radiolabbeled with a purity of 85% was tested on the standard fish Oncorhynchus mykiss (Rainbow Trout), in a static condition. The exposure duration was 96 hours while the application frequency once at day. Temperature, pH and dissolved oxigen were measured during the test.

MARINE WATER

The most relevant and conservative study defines a mortality endpoint LC50 of 1500 µg/l. This value was measured by chemical analysis. 2,4 -dinitrophenol (purity not measured) was tested on the standard fish Cyprinodon variegatus (Sheepshead Minnow), in a juvenile life stage, in a static condition in salt water. The exposure duration was 96 hours while the application frequency once at day. Temperature and salinity were measured during the test. Other effects as body burden were observed.
