Description of key information

Thiourea is a colourless/white and odourless organic solid.

According to Ullmann's Encyclopedia thiourea has no sharp melting point, as it rearranges relatively rapidly to NH4SCN from 135°C on.

The substance has a relative density of 1.405 g/cm³ at 20 °C.

It decomposes before boiling.

The substance as manufactured has a median particle size of 482.96 µm, with approximately 90 % of the mass smaller than 808.65 µm.

The vapour pressure of thiourea is negligibly low (9.975E-08 hPa at 20 °C).

Thiourea is a hydrophilic compound (log Kow -0.92)

Thiourea is very soluble in water (137 g/L at 20 °C)

The solubility in organic solvents/fat is not considered a relevant property of this substance as it will essentially be insoluble in non-polar solvents.

Thiourea has a surface tension of 65.4 mN/m at 20 °C.

Thiourea is not highly flammable.
