Description of key information

2-Chlorobutane has a melting point of -131.3 °C at 1 atm.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-131 °C

According to the CRC hadbook 2 -Chlorobutane has a melting point of -131.3 °C. Riddick et al. in Techniques of Chemistry does report a melting point of -113.3 °C for racemic 2 -Chlorobutane and -140.5 °C for the enantiomers. Given the wide spread between racemic and enantiomer, the value reported in CRC handbook seems more appropriate and is taken forward for hazard and risk assessment. Taking into consideration that the melting point certainly is far below -20 °C, a detailed assessment and decision is not important and required.
