Additional information

Data on short-term toxicity to fish are available in the WHO Concise International Chemical Assessment Document 20 (CICAD) on Mononitrophenols (2000), the BUA report 75 for 2- and 4-nitrophenol (1992; update supplementary report 2003) and the ECB IUCLID (2000) for 2-nitrophenol. The LC50 values after 96 h for different fish species range from 36.6 to 136 mg/L. Additionally, own data on short-term-toxicity to fish are available (BASF 1980). The LC50 after 48 h with Brachydanio rerio was determined to be approx. 68 mg/L. Therefore, 2-nitrophenol is regarded as acutely harmful to fish.
