In a valid study performed according to international ISO guideline 9439 close to OECD 301B (reliability category 2) the test item cyclohexanone oxime was assessed to be readily biodegradable meeting the 10-day window requirement. Validity criteria of the guidelines were fulfilled. Based on CO2 evolution, within 28 days a mean degradation (2 replicates) of 79% was reached.

This is supported by a test on inherent biodegradability (Zahn-Wellens test) performed according to EU method C.9 (equivalent to OECD 302B; reliability category 2). Cyclohexanone oxime was assessed to be inherently biodegradable, fulfilling specific criteria.

Due to these results, further higher-tier simulation tests and a test on hydrolysis as a function of pH were neither regarded to be necessary nor exptected to yield further relevant information and therefore were not performed.

Due to a low experimentally determined log Kow of 1.256 (at 25 deg C) the potential for bioconcentration / bioaccumulation can be assumed to be very low. According to "column 2" in Annex IX of REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 testing is not required under these circumstances and experimental data are not available for this endpoint.

Out of the same reasons (low log Kow) also potential for adsorption can be assumed to be low. According to "column 2" in Annex VIII and IX of REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 no testing is required under these circumstances (log Kow < 3.0). Calculated Koc-values using KOCWIN v. 2.00 within US-EPA´s EPI Suite software package v. 4.11 were the following:

Based on exp. determined log Kow (1.265 at 25°C): 12.52 L/kg;

Based on MCI-method: 446.1 L/kg.

Thus, also based on these calculated values, adsorption potential for cyclohexanone oxime is low. This is further supported by the 3 -hours value from the reliable (with restrictions, RL2) Zahn-Wellens test, where adsorption was determined to be negligible.

The value based on the MCI-method will be used for chemical safety assessment, as accuracy of the MCI-method proved to be slightly better than the one based on log Kow.

In conclusion, cyclohexanone oxime is expected to partition preferentially to the aquatic phase where it will be rapidly and ultimately biodegraded.
