Additional information

The results of a semi-occlusive skin irritation study in rabbits performed with DBM (key study) showed lesions that were resolved by day 8. The test material was determined to be slightly irritating in all three rabbits during the observation period. However, one animal showed a well-defined dermal irritanting response on days 2 -3 only. There were other studies evaluated including some responses in humans. Information was limited but reliable enough for evaluation. Collectively, data suggest that DBM is a slightly to well defined irritating to the skin.

In addition, DBM was evaluated in an eye irritation/corrosion test. Based on the results from several reports, it was determined that the test substance may cause a well-defined conjunctival irritantion with a short recovery period of one or two days after exposure. Collectively, it was concluded that DBM is not irritating to the eyes.

Based on the overall response, DBM is considered slightly irritating to the skin and to the eyes.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: slightly irritating

Effects on eye irritation: slightly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification
