Conclusion on classification

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008

Classification related information

Biodegradability:readily biodegradable (90 - 100 % (TIC/ThIC) after 28 days)

Log Pow: 2.38 at 25 °C

Aquatic acute toxicity

- Aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48 h) = 8.2 mg/L (measured,Daphnia magna,OECD TG 202)(n-butyl acrylate)

- Algae: ErC50 (72 h) = 5.28 mg/L (measured,Desmodesmus subspicatus, OECD 201)(isobutyl acrylate)

- Fish: LC50 (96 h) = 2.1 mg/L (measured,Pimephales promelas, OECD 203)(isobutyl acrylate)

Aquatic acute toxicity

- Algae: ErC10 (72 h) = 2.09 mg/L (measured,Desmodesmus subspicatus, OECD 201)(isobutyl acrylate)

-Aquatic invertebrates:NOEC (21 d) = 0.136 mg/L (measured,Daphnia magna, OECD 211) (n-butyl acrylate)

Conclusion

The available experimental test data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation 1272/2008. Isobutyl acrylate was found to be readily biodegradable. The most sensitive test for the aquatic compartment was the long-term toxicity test to aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna). The test revealed a 21-day NOEC of 0.136 mg/L. The log Pow was determined to be 2.38. Based on these results, isobutyl acrylate is not classified for aquatic short-term (acute) toxicity, but for aquatic long-term (chronic) toxicity Category 3 (H412, Harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), as amended for the fifteenth time in Regulation (EU) 2020/1182.
