Vinyl acetate is considered to be readily biodegradable and is also expected to have low potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption to soil and sediment based on its experimental log Kow of 0.73. The hydrolytic half-life of vinyl acetate has been shown to be 17 days. The physico-chemical properties of vinyl acetate indicate that the majority of this substance will ultimately partition to the atmosphere where it is quickly photooxidised with a calculated half life of 14.6hrs.

Vinyl acetate is not expected to persist in the environment because it is readily biodegradable, has a low potential for adsorption to organic matter and has a low potential for bioaccumulation.
