First-aid measures

General advice: Avoid direct contact with the substance.

Self-protection of the first aider: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, avoid direct contact. It may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.  Contaminated clothing should be discarded.

IF INHALED: If breathing is difficult, remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If symptoms develop, obtain medical attention.

IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. Immediately call a POISON CENTER/doctor. Gently wash with plenty of soap and water.

IF IN EYES: Flush victim's eyes with water / normal saline / boric saline solution for 20 to 30 minutes while simultaneously calling a hospital or poison control centre. Do not put any ointments, oils, or medication in the victim's eyes without specific instructions from a physician.

IF SWALLOWED: Do NOT induce vomiting. If the victim is conscious and not convulsing, give 1 or 2 glasses of water to dilute the chemical and IMMEDIATELY call a hospital or poison control centre. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately.

Symptoms: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Inhalation may result in wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, or burning in the mouth, throat, or chest.

Medical treatment: There is no specific antidote.

Note to physician: Due to possible delayed effect of poisoning and for safety reasons, they should be kept under medical observation for at least 48 hours.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Dry Chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray or halon extinguisher.

Unsuitable extinguishing media: Direct water jet. Direct water jet may spread the fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance: Non-flammable, but the suspected to be combustible. When heated to decomposition it may emit acrid smoke, irritating fumes and toxic fumes of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.

Advice for fire-fighters: Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do not breathe fumes. Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire. Avoid run off to waterways and sewers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Ensure adequate ventilation. Ensure suitable personal protection during removal of spillages. Contaminated clothing should be discarded. Avoid all contact with substance. Other protection measures such as segregation of activity, minimisation of personnel, respiratory protection, impervious suits and face shields should also be considered for high dispersion activities which are likely to lead to substantial dust, aerosol or vapour release, e.g. spraying or cutting.

Environmental precautions: Avoid release to the environment. Do not allow into any sewer on the ground, or into any body of water.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Only trained and properly protected personnel must be involved in clean-up operations.  Dampen solid with water. Pick up material, avoiding generation of dust. Transfer to a lidded container for disposal or recovery. Ventilate the area and wash spill site after material pick-up is complete. Do not re-enter the contaminated area until the Safety Officer (or other responsible person) has verified that the area has been properly cleaned.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Ensure adequate ventilation. In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. Contaminated clothing should be discarded. Keep good industrial hygiene. Wash hands before breaks and after work. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking.

Conditions for safe storage: Store in correctly labelled containers. Opened containers should be carefully resealed and stored in an upright position.

Incompatible materials: Oxidizing agents, Reducing agents, Bases

Exposure controls / personal protection

Hygiene measures: Keep good industrial hygiene. Have available eyewash bottle with clean water.

For full personal protection measures see the applicable exposure scenario (where applicable).

Respiratory protection:       In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable positive pressure respiratory protection equipment. Where the neat test chemical is weighed and diluted, wear a NIOSH- approved half face respirator equipped with an organic vapour /acid gas cartridge (specific for organic vapours, HCl, acid gas and SO2) with a dust/mist filter.

Hand protection: Wear impervious gloves (EN374). After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations.  Recommended glove material:

- Neoprene Edmont 29-840 0.38 mm 360 min.

- PVC Edmont Snorkel 0.60 mm 240 min.

- Nitrile Edmont 37-155 0.40 mm 360 min.

- Natural Rubber Comasec Flexigum 0.95 mm 240 min.

Eye protection: Use eye protection according to EN 166, designed to protect against dusts.

Skin and body protection: Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.

Environmental Exposure Controls: Avoid release to the environment. Do not allow into any sewer on the ground, or into any body of water.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability: Considered stable under normal conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: None known.

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces - no smoking.

Incompatible materials: Oxidizing agents, Reducing agents, Bases

Hazardous decomposition products: When heated to decomposition it may emit acrid smoke, irritating fumes and toxic fumes of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide

Disposal considerations

Product disposal methods: To be disposed of as hazardous waste. Disposal should be in accordance with local, state or national legislation.

Additional Information

: Ensure that all packaging is disposed of safely. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residue. Make sure that packaging is completely empty before recycling. Dispose of uncured residues in the same way as the product itself.
