Additional information

Reliable results were obtained from a guideline study performed according GLP.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance Triglyme itself has no explosive properties in the sense of the European Commission regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 method A14. and in the sense of the EPA Product Properties Test Guideline OPPTS 830.6316.

However, due to the fact that ether functional groups are present in the molecule it is assumed that the substance is capable of forming peroxides during storage for longer periods. It is known that primary and secondary ethers with a CH group next to the ether oxygen form peroxides. The reaction requires oxygen (e. g. from air) and is accelerated by light or metal catalysts. Resulting peroxides can be explosive. Therefore classification according to DSD with R19 (May form explosive peroxides) is warranted. This corresponds with additional labelling requirements according to GHS (CLP supplemental hazard statement): EUH019: May form explosive peroxides.
