Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

From the calculated Henry's Law constant it can be concluded that 2-phenoxyethanol is no volatile substance and will predominantly be found in the terrestrial or aquatic compartment. Regarding phototransformation in air, 2-phenoxyethanol was calculated to degrade to 50% after 11.8 hours.

As to the aquatic compartment, 2-phenoxyethanol can be considered as hydrolytically stable with a half-life of >1 year. Direct photolysis of 2-phenoxyethanol can be considered as negligible in surface water systems, where it was extrapolated to have a half-life of 5120 days. 2-phenoxyethanol

can be regarded as readily biodegradable as >60% biodegradation was achieved within 10 days of the start of biodegradation,

hence it can be assumed that the substance will be completely biologically degraded within the STP process. Furthermore, for substances not passing the STP-process but being readily biodegradable, it can be assumed that they will be also biologically degraded in the surface water within a short time.

Thus, transport of the substance to the soil compartment is unlikely. Besides, the determined adsorption coefficient of 40.74 L/kg (equals log Koc 1.61) indicates a low adsorption potential of 2-phenoxyethanol on solid materials (sediment and soil) which is confirmed by the results of several distribution models.

The substance exhibits a low bioaccumulation potential (log Kow 1.6) which is supported by the calculation of the BCF of 2-phenoxyethanol yielding a value of 0.35. Hence no bioaccumulation potential of the substance is to be expected.

The impurities in Phenoxyethanol Kopfstrom are considered as negligible due to their low content. Furthermore both impurities are considered as readily biodegradable as well and are considered as not bioaccumulative (Echa disseminated data for both compounds). Thus, further studies with Phenoxyethanol Kopfstrom are considered as not necessary and will provide no further information.
