Description of key information

The first key study was a soil adsorption test conducted in accordance with an established guideline, which reported soil-water partitioning coefficient (Kd) values and organic carbon adsorption coefficient (Koc) values for five soil types.  The second key study was an activated sludge adsorption isotherm test conducted in accordance with an established guideline, which reported sludge soil-water partitioning at six test substance concentrations spanning two orders of magnitude.

Additional information

The substance is expected to partition strongly to soils, sediment and activated sludge in the environment. The soil adsorption study identified a range for Koc values, from 60,000 L/kg in sand (Speyer 2.1) to > 832,000 L/kg in clay/clayey loam (Speyer 6S). The key value of Koc = 60,000 L/kg, or log Koc = 4.78 (i.e., the lowest value in the reported range of values) was selected as a conservative value for purposes of predicting equilibrium partitioning between sediments or soils and their respective pore water compartments. From the activated sludge isotherm study, a Kd value of 1150 L/kg, or log Kd = 3.06 (based on the linear regression of the six test concentrations) was determined.
