Isolated sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (SDEC) is a white crystalline solid (Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG, 2010). However, the substance is manufactured and marketed by the registrant solely as a saturated aqueous solution, which corresponds to 26% (w/w) concentration (Analytical laboratory Termoli, 2007). In its dissolved form, it is a yellow to green liquid. The melting point is 91°C at 1 atm (Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG, 2010). The boiling point cannot be determined, as the test substance showed endothermic reactions above 65°C. These effects can be attributed to rearrangements in the structure of the crystal due to the presence of crystal water. At elevated temperatures, gaseous water is evaporated (Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG, 2010). The solid substance has a bulk density of 632 g/L at 23°C (Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG, 2010); the relative density could not be determined due to the fact that the test item was an inhomogeneous solid from which the air bubbles could not be removed. The maximal water solubility of the substance corresponds to its concentration in marketed form (ca. 26% w/w), which is equal to 27800 mg/L. The partition coefficient was determined to be ≤ -1.1 (Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG, 2009); calculated with KOWWIN vs. 1.67 it is -1.4. It has no explosive or oxidising properties and is non-flammable. The determination of vapour pressure, flash point, surface tension, auto flammability and particle size distribution are not warranted in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII and/o with section 1 of REACH Annex XI and/or the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment (chapter R7. A).
