Description of key information

The toxicity of diethyl sulphide to algae gives a 72 hour biomass EC50 of 38 mg/L and the NOEC of 5.3 mg/L. The 72 hour growth rate EC50 is greater than 59.3 mg/L and NOEC is 5.3 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
59.3 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
5.3 mg/L

Additional information

Thiebaud (1999) is a 72 hour, GLP-compliant study on Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata following OECD guideline 201. Effect concentrations were based on measured initial concentrations of diethyl sulphide in the test solutions. The validity criteria have been fulfilled and the study is considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint.
