Description of key information

The BCF in steady-state of the test substance was determined to be 17 (dimensionless). No significant bioaccumulation in fish is therefore to be expected.

Additional information

The bioaccumulation of the test substance was determined in a study according to OECD guideline 305 and in compliance with GLP criteria. In this study carp (Cyprinus carpio) were exposed for 28 days to nominal test substance concentrations of 20 or 2 µg/L in a flow-through system. Nominal concentrations were analytically verified and determined at 17.5 or 1.64 µg/L, respectively. The mean concentrations of the metabolite 2,4,6-trimethyl benzoic acid (MEC) were 2.47 and 0.317 µg/L, respectively. In the high concentration group, the steady state was reached by day 28 and the BCF was calculated to be 17 (dimensionless). In the low concentration group, the steady state was also reached by day 28. The BCF was however not calculated because the test substance in test fish were below the limit of quantitation. The lipid contents in test fish increased from 2.96% before the start of the experiment to 4.13% after terminating exposure. These increases in lipid contents were attributed to growth of test fish.
