Notes:

•       Good general ventilation is assumed in all cases (3-5 air exchanges per hour)

•       Dustiness of the substance was set at “low”

•       LEV is considered only for inhalation exposures and its efficiencies are as follows:

o       For PROC1 LEV is not an exposure modifier

o       For PROC8b LEV reduces inhalation exposure with 95%

o       For all other PROCs LEV reduces inhalation exposure with 90%

•       The applied RMMs/OCs will also control the risks relating to possible skin & eye irritation and skin sensitisation

The RMMs/OCs for the use of 2-methylresorcinol in an industrial environment:

•       Indoor industrial activities taking more than 4 hours per day

•       With an advanced occupational health and safety system

•       Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) and good general ventilation (3-5 air changes per hour)

•       Gloves with at least 80% dermal protection: Use chemical resistant gloves classified under Standard EN374, class 6 (breakthrough time > 480 minutes)

•       Wear approved safety goggles for eye protection

•       Low dustiness of the substance

CONSUMER TOXICITY

To cover PC39 (cosmetics & personal care products) the consumer exposure scenario was calculated with CHESAR v 3.0.0. The parameters were: percentage of substance in mixture <=3.0%; liquid product; only exposure via the dermal route; frequent annual use/once per day; adults assumed; exposure to the inside of both hands; dermal transfer factor = 0.2

The result was a total dermal systemic dose of 0.429 mg/kg/day, or an RCR of 0.858

Note: the maximum concentration of 2-methylresorcinol allowed on-head is 3.0% under the assumption that the uptake of this substance through the skin is not more than 20% (maximum experimental value found: 20 %)

MAXIMUM CONCENTRATION OF SUBSTANCE IN A MIXTURE

In a consumer environment the substance is only to be used in a mixture with a maximum on-head concentration of 3.0 %.
