A key study on glycerine carbonate (Belarde et al., 2003) indicated that the substance is readily biodegradable. Therefore, hydrolysis on function of pH can be waived. A very low Koc was observed in a study from Reimer et al. (2003). Bioaccumulation of glycerine carbonate is not expected because of very low Kow.

A hydrolysis experiment with methyle carbonate (MEC) was performed. MEC contains a hydroxygroup and this hydroxy group is removed from the site of hydrolysis by at least 3 atoms, making MEC a suitable surrogate for jeffsol GC. Based on the results jeffsol GC is hydrolytically unstable at acidic pH. Therefore, given the above hydrolysis half-life of the surrogate MEC under acidic conditions (9 days at 20C°), it is likely that the half-life of jeffsol GC would be comparable to the MEC half-life under acidic conditions.
