Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, read-across to the assessment entities soluble strontium substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate determine its toxicity in the environment. Chronic toxicity of 2-ethylhexanoate to Daphnia magna was assessed in an OECD 211 conform study, yielding an 21-d NOEC of 25 mg/L 2-ethylhexanoate. In addition, a 21-d NOEC of 18 mg/L was derived from supporting studies according to OECD 211 (Daphnia magna). Studies on long-term toxicity of strontium ions to aquatic invertebrates resulted in a 21-d NOEC of 21 mg strontium/L (Daphnia magna). Since all respective NOEC values of strontium and 2-ethylhexanoate are well above the OECD limit for chronic toxicity tests, the potential of strontium 2-ethylhexanoate for long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is expected to be low.
