Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
hydrolysis
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 111 (Hydrolysis as a Function of pH)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method C.7 (Degradation: Abiotic Degradation: Hydrolysis as a Function of pH)
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
The hydrolysis rate is too fast and rigorous guideline test is not possible.
Specific details on test material used for the study:
SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Supplier: Borica Co., Ltd.
- Lot number: 200554x
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 2018-May-24
- CAS number: 3087-37-4
Radiolabelling:
no
Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Initial observations showed rapid degradation in minutes in diluted form.
Only performed at 'natural' pH; it is known that pH does not influence the rate of degradation of these highly unstable substances.
The concentration of test substance in the test sample was determined at time points between 0 & 60 minutes based on quantification of the hydrolysis product. Sampling point: 0, 5, 10, 25, 40, 60 min.
Buffers:
- pH: 7
Conc. 0.01 M
pH 7 Phosphate
Duration:
60 min
pH:
7
Temp.:
30 °C
Number of replicates:
2
Positive controls:
no
Negative controls:
yes
Remarks:
(Blank buffer solutions)
Preliminary study:
The hydrolysis products (transformation products) were identfied.
Transformation products:
yes
No.:
#1
Details on hydrolysis and appearance of transformation product(s):
The solution immediately became cloudy and white precipitation forms when water was added into the Test Substance, indicating the rapid hydrolysis behavior of the Test Substance.
Key result
pH:
7
Temp.:
30 °C
DT50:
<= 5 min
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The hydroylsis half-life of the test subsatnce was less than 5 minute.
Executive summary:

The recorded degradation products are titanium dioxide and 1-propanol.  The organic products are known to biodegrade readily.

Description of key information

Test conducted according to OECD guideline 111.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
5 min
at the temperature of:
30 °C

Additional information

Degrades rapidly when diluted in water, with the visible formation of zirconium oxide as a precipitate within minutes of adding to water.

Half-life not possible to measure, but considered to be less than 5 minutes.
