Description of key information

1,3,3,5 -Tetramethyl-1,1,5,5-tetraphenyltrisiloxane is a liquid substance at room temperature with a melting point of <-20°C. The substance has a measured boiling point of >400°C (and a predicted boiling point value of 460°C) and a predicted density of 1.1 g/cm3 at 20°C and a predicted vapour pressure of 5.2E-07 Pa at 25°C.

The substance is not classified for flammability in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. A flash point study does not need to be conducted because the estimated flash point is above 200°C (based on a measured boiling point of >400°C). The substance is determined to be not explosive and not oxidising on the basis of chemical structure.

1,3,3,5-Tetramethyl-1,1,5,5-tetraphenyltrisiloxane has a predicted log Kow of 9 and predicted water solubility of 9.0E-11 mg/L at 20°C.

In contact with water, 1,3,3,5-tetramethyl-1,1,5,5-tetraphenyltrisiloxane is expected to react slowly (half-lives of 329 h (13.7 d) at pH 7, 9.76 h at pH 9, and 5.09 h at pH 5 and 25°C are read-across from a structurally similar substance). The half-lives described are for the removal of parent substance. The intermediate products of this reaction are also expected to be unstable in water, and so further hydrolysis reactions will follow, the ultimate products being dimethylsilanediol (1 mole per mole of parent substance) and methyl(diphenyl)silanol (2 moles per mole of parent substance).
