First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). Immediately remove contaminated clothing.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

On contact with eyes:

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Do not induce vomiting. Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: Information, i.e. additional information on symptoms and effects may be included in the GHS labeling phrases available in Section 2 and in the Toxicological assessments available in Section 11 of the safteydata sheet. Further symptoms are possible

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Medical monitoring for at least 24 hours.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

water spray, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides

The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Under certain conditions in case of fire other hazardous combustion products may be generated. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Further information:

Collect contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent systems. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Use personal protective clothing. Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Breathing protection required. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.

Environmental precautions

Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Dike spillage. Pump off product.

For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.

Cleaning operations should be carried out only while wearing breathing apparatus. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly with water and detergents, observing environmental regulations. Collect waste in suitable containers, which can be labeled and sealed. Incinerate or take to a special waste disposal site in accordance with local authority regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Segregate from acids and acid forming substances.

Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Storage stability:

Storage duration: 24 Months

From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the warrantee of application properties can be deduced.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

Components with occupational exposure limits

87-62-7: 2,6-Xylidine

108-38-3: m-Xylene

576-26-1: 2,6-Xylenol

Exposure controls

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is inadequate. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A)

Hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials for short-term contact (recommended: At least protective index 2, corresponding > 30 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374)

nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Suitable materials against splashes (recommended: At least protective index 1, corresponding > 10 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374)

chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness

butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Data are based on information from the glove manufacturer, the raw material manufacturer or according to specifics of  the product components.

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection:

Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.

Body protection:

chemical-protection suit (f.e. according to EN 14605), Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).

General safety and hygiene measures

Contact with eyes and skin must be avoided. Do not breathe vapour/spray. Wearing of closed work clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Store work clothing separately. Gloves must be inspected regularly and prior to each use.  Replace if necessary (e.g. pinhole leaks). When using, do not eat, drink or smoke.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Corrosion to metals:

No data available.

Chemical stability

The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Strong exothermic reaction with acids.

Conditions to avoid

Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Incompatible materials

Substances to avoid:

acids

Hazardous decomposition products

Possible decomposition products:

carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

Contaminated packaging:
