Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Several independent sources of information indicate that the relative density of hafnium is included in a range of 13 – 13,31
A value of d = 13.31 will be considered in the registration dossier (peer-reviewed data)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
13.31

Additional information

Several independent sources of information indicate that the relative density is included in a range of 13.01 – 13.31

The difference in results are assumed to be caused by the difficulty tot prepare Hf samples of high purity. Indeed, studies on the influence of zirconium concentration on Hf density show that this latter decrease by 1% when [Zr] is 1% w/w.

Although only one peer-reviewed data is available it can be safely concluded that the density of Hafnium is between 13.01 and 13.31. A value of d = 13.31 will be considered in the registration dossier (peer-reviewed data)
