First-aid measures

4.1 General informations

Move victim out of danger zone. Position and transport victim on their side. In case of

respiratory distress, bring into semi-upright, seated position. Remove contaminated

clothing immediatley and dispose off safely. Put victim at rest, cover with a blanket

and keep warm. Do not leave victim unattended. In case of accident or if you feel

unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show safety data sheet if possible).

Symptoms of poisoning may develop several hours following exposure. Victim should

be under medical observation for at least 48 hours after exposure.

Medical advice absolutely requred!

4.2 In case of inhalation

Provide fresh air. In case of breathing difficulties administer oxygen. No mouth-tomouth

or mouth-to-nose resuscitation.Use respiratory bag or oxygen resuscitation

apparatus.

4.3 In case of skin contact

Remove contaminated clothing immediatley and dispose off safely. After contact with

skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. In cases of frostbite rinse with ample

water. Do not remove clothing.

4.4 In case of eye contact

In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to

15 minutes holding eyelids apart. Subsequently consult an ophthalmologist.

4.5 In case of ingestion

Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Let water be swallowed in little sips (dilution

effect). Do not allow a neutralization agent to be drunk. Do not induce vomiting.

4.6 Self-protection of the first aider

First aid assistant: Pay attention to self-protection! No mouth-to-mouth or mouth-tonose

resuscitation.Use respiratory bag or oxygen resuscitation apparatus.

4.7 Information to physician

4.7.1 Routes of exposure

The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

4.7.2 Hazards

Effects of short-term exposure:

Rapid evaporation of the liquid may cause frostbite. The

substance is irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract.

Inhalation may cause asthma-like reactions.

Effects of long-term or repeated

exposure:

Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause

asthma.

Notes: -

4.7.3 Symptoms

In case of inhalation:

Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Laboured

breathing.

In case of skin contact: ON CONTACT WITH LIQUID: FROSTBITE.

In case of eye contact: Redness. Pain.

In case of ingestion: -

4.7.4 Treatment

First Aid, decontamination, treatment of symptoms.

Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Suitable extinguishing media

Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings.

5.2 Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons

-

5.3 Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself,

combustion products, resulting gases

In case of fire may be liberated:

Sulphur dioxide (SO2). Sulphur trioxide.

5.4 Special protective equipment for fire-fighters

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. In case

of fire: use acidproof devices.

5.5 Additional information

Intervention Actions-General

PUBLIC SAFETY HAZARD - Warn people nearby to stay indoors with doors and

windows closed. Stop any ventilation. Consider evacuation of people in immediate

danger. Keep upwind. Put on protective equipment before entering danger area.

Minimise number of personnel in risk area. Warn people to leave and not to re-enter

basements, sewers or other confined spaces. Keep upwind. Put on protective

equipment before entering danger area.

Intervention Actions-Fire (involving the substance)

May react in a fire to produce toxic or irritant gases or fumes. Heating of container(s)

will cause pressure rise with risk of bursting and immediate release of expanding toxic

and corrosive vapour cloud creating a pressure wave. Contact with liquid will cause

frostbite and severe damage to eyes.

May attack metals and produce hydrogen gas which may form explosive mixture with

air. The gas may be invisible and may enter sewers, basements or confined spaces.

Keep container(s) cool with water. Work from protected position to reduce risk to

personnel. Use unmanned monitors or lances. Use water spray to knock down fire

fumes if possible. Avoid unnecessary run-off of extinguishing media which may cause

pollution.

Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions (spillage)

Wear personal protection equipment.

6.2 Environmental precautions

Stop leaks if possible. Contain spillage by any means available.

Cover drains. Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil. Do not empty into drains or the

aquatic environment.

6.3 Methods for cleaning up

Refer to chapter 6.4

6.4 Additional information

Evacuate danger area! Personal protection: complete protective clothing including

self-contained breathing apparatus. Consult an expert! Ventilation. NEVER direct

water jet on liquid.

Handling and storage

7.1 Handling

7.1.1 Advices on safe handling

Protective measures

Wear personal protection equipment. Refer to chapter 8. Do not eat, drink, smoke or

sneeze at the workplace.

Dangerous areas must be delimited and marked with appropriate warning and safety

signs. In the immediate working surroundings there must be: Emergency spray

installed. provide eye wash and label its location conspicuously. provide sufficient

washing facilities. Fill only into labelled container. Instruction on the hazards and the

protective measures using instruction manual are required with signature.

Working areas must be arranged in such a manner that they can be cleaned at all

times.

7.1.2 Technical measures

Measures to prevent aerosol and dust generation

All work processes must always be designed so that the following is excluded:

Inhalation. Skin contact. Eye contact.

Transfer and handle product only in closed systems.

Measures required to protect the environment

Cover drains. In case of gas being released or leakage into waters, ground or the

drainage system, the appropriate authorities must be informed. Use a water spray jet

to knock down vapours/gases/mists. Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil. Do not

empty into drains or the aquatic environment.

7.1.3 Specific requirements or handling rules

The floor should be leak tight, jointless and not absorbent.

7.1.4 Precautions against fire and explosion

Usual measures for fire prevention.

7.2 Storage

7.2.1 Technical measures and storage conditions

Keep container tightly closed. Keep/Store only in original container.

Protect against: Humidity. UV-radiation/sunlight.

7.2.2 Hints on storage assembly

Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.
