First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

General information: Provide general first aid, rest, warmth and fresh air. As a general rule, in case of doubt or if symptoms persist, always call a doctor. Seek medical attention for all burns and eye injuries, regardless how minor they may seem. First aid personnel must be aware of own risk during rescue.

Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately.

Ingestion: If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth thoroughly. Get medical attention immediately.

Skin contact: Remove all contaminated clothes and shoes. Promptly flush contaminated skin with water. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Seek medical advice.

Eye contact Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delay:

General information: The severity of the symptoms described will vary dependent on the concentration and the length of exposure.

Inhalation: Corrosive: Material is extremely destructive to the tissue of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing and shortness of breath. May cause headache and nausea.

Ingestion: May cause chemical burns in mouth and throat.

Skin contact: Corrosive. Causes severe skin burns. Eye contact Corrosive! Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, redness.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

Notes to the physician: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Hazardous combustion products: Carbon Oxides. Sulphur oxides (SOx). Hydrogen chloride gas.

Unusual fire & explosion hazards: Reacts violently with water.

Specific hazards: Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.

Advice for firefighters:

Special fire fighting procedures: Avoid breathing fire vapours. Keep up-wind to avoid fumes. Fight advanced or massive fires from safe distance or protected location. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them. Do not get water inside container.

Protective equipment for firefighters: Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode. Clothing for fire-fighters (including helmets, protective boots and gloves) conforming to European standard EN 469 will provide a basic level of protection for chemical incidents.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Remove all sources of ignition. Ventilate area of leak or spill. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as specified in Section 8. Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering.

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Absorb spillage with non-combustible, inert, absorbent material - sand. Take up mechanically. Ensure that waste and contaminated materials are collected and removed from the work area as soon as possible in a suitably labelled container.

Protective equipment:

Engineering measures: Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, to ensure that the defined occupational exposure limit is not exceeded.

Respiratory equipment: Where risk assessment shows air-purifying respirators are appropriate a full face respirator conforming to EN143 should be used, and suitable respirator cartridges as a backup to engineering controls. ABEK (EN 14387). Use respirators and components tested and approved under appropriate government standards such as CEN (EU).

Hand protection: Where hand contact with the product may occur the use of gloves approved to relevant standards (e.g. Europe: EN374) is recommended. Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Suggested material: (Suitable materials for longer, direct contact) Fluorinated rubber. Minimum layer thickness: 0.7 mm. Break through time: >480 minutes. (Suitable materials for short-term contact or splashes) Nitrile rubber. Minimum layer thickness: 0.4 mm. Break through time: 30 minutes. If used in solution, or mixed with other substances, and under conditions which differ from EN 374, contact the supplier of the CE approved gloves for specific advice. Use proper glove removal technique (without touching glove's outer surface) to avoid skin contact with this product. Dispose of contaminated gloves after use in accordance with applicable laws and good laboratory practices.

Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles or face-shield. Face shield (8-inch minimum). Use equipment for eye protection tested and approved under appropriate government standards such as EN 166(EU).

Other protection: Protective clothing should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product. The selected clothing must satisfy the European norm standard EN 943.

Hygiene measures: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Process conditions: Ensure that eye flushing systems and safety showers are located close by in the work place. Keep container tightly sealed when not in use.
