Executive summary:

The toxicity of Potassium Hexahydroxostannate, crystalline M (batch number: 25L138) to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined according to the principles of OECD 201 at Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien in 31157 Sarstedt, Germany from 2013-05-13 to 2013-05-16. The aim of the study was to assess the effects on growth rate and yield over a period of 72 hours.

The study was conducted under static conditions with an initial cell density of 4332 cells/mL. Based on a preliminary test 7 concentration levels were tested in a geometrical series with a dilution factor of 3.16 (nominal): 0.100 - 0.316 - 1.00 - 3.16 - 10.0 - 31.6 - 100 mg/L. Three replicates were tested for each test item concentration and six replicates for the control. Three replicates of the highest test concentration were additionally tested with an initial pH value of 8.24 to test for pH-related effects. Environmental conditions were determined to be within the acceptable limits.

The concentrations of Potassium Hexahydroxostannate, crystalline M in all test concentrations, the pH - Control and control were analytically verified via ICP-OES by an external test facility (non-GLP, see page 4) after 0 and 72 hours. The measured concentrations at start of the exposure were in the range of 100 to 108 % of the nominal values. Recovery rates at the end of the exposure were in the range of 91 % to 102 % of the nominal values
