Conclusion on classification
Propylene glycol dibenzoate (PGDB) is not classified for the environment in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. The species most sensitive to PGDB is algae and therefore according to the Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria (Version 5.0 – July 2017), the EC50 (growth rate) is preferred for use in classification. The EC50 (growth rate) for PGDB is 1.53 mg/L and is classified as readily biodegradable, with a log Kow of 3.9 and therefore it does not meet the criteria for classification for aquatic toxicity (Aquatic Chronic 3. criteria = algae EC50 (growth rate) of <1mg/L).
