Additional information

Data on the short-term toxicity of 2,2-bis[[(1-oxoheptyl)oxy]methyl]propane-1,3-diyl bisheptanoate (CAS 25811-35-2) to fish are not available. Therefore in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5, a read across to the structurally related substance pentaerythritol tetraesters of n-decanoic, n-heptanoic, n-octanoic and n-valeric acids (CAS 68424-31-7) was conducted. This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID section 6.1) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.
The short toxicity of the read-across substance was investigated in a semi-static study equivalent or similar to OECD 203 (Combert and Caunter, 1991). The fish (Salmo gairdneri) were exposed to the substance for 96 hours. At test termination a LC50 (96h) > 1000 mg/L (nominal) was determined. No mortality was observed within the tested concentration (1000 mg/L nominal) during 96h exposure. As the test material did not dissolved completely in the dilution water, the tested concentration demonstrated a worst case. Thus, toxic effects were not observed within the range of the water solubility (< 1 mg/L). Based on the available result from a structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and comparable structure, it can be concluded that 2,2-bis[[(1-oxoheptyl)oxy]methyl]propane-1,3-diyl bisheptanoate (CAS 25811-35-2) will not exhibit short-term effects on fish up to the limit of water solubility.
