Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
Sampling for analysis of test concentrations was done at 0h and 48h.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
The study started with a combined limit/range-finding test. Twenty daphnids per concentration (four replicates, five daphnids per replicate) were exposed to a control and a WAF at 100 mg/L.
For the final test, test concentrations were WAFs at 0.10, 0.22, 0.46, 1.0, 2.2, 4.6 and 10 mg/L.
Samples taken from the WAFs at 1.0, 2.2, 4.6 and 10 mg/L were analyzed and showed measured initial concentrations of 0.68, 1.6, 3.1 and 7.3 mg/L, respectively. These concentrations remained stable during the test period and were 95-98% of initial at the end of the test. Given these results, the EC50 was calculated using the measured initial concentrations.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna

Study design

Test conditions

Hardness:
180 mg/L expressed as CaCO3
Test temperature:
The temperature was continuously measured in a temperature control vessel. Temperature varied between 19 and 20°C during the test.

pH 7.7 +/- 0.3
Nominal and measured concentrations:
Nominal concentrations: WAFs at 0.10, 0.22, 0.46, 1.0, 2.2, 4.6 and 10 mg/L.
Measured initial concentrations: 0.68, 1.6, 3.1 and 7.3 mg/L (corresponding to WAFs at 1.0, 2.2, 4.6 and 10 mg/L, respectively).
Reference substance (positive control):
no
Remarks:
Negative control was used - test medium without test item or other additives. Reference test carried out 14-16 Nov 2016 to check sensitivity of test system used by the laboratory.
