Description of key information

Diisopropylbenzolhydroperoxide was found to be harmful to algae with ErC50 > 11.5 mg/L and ErC10 = 7.2 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
7.2 mg/L

Additional information

In a 72-hour acute toxicity study, algae Desmodesmus subspicatus (Stain No. 86.81 SAG) were exposed to Diisopropylbenzolhydroperoxide nominal concentrations of 0, 0.05, 0.14, 0.43, 1.29, 3.82 and 11.45 mg/L under static conditions in accordance with the European Guideline 88/302 and GLP requirements. The test substance was added at the rate of 1 g/L in drinkwater, mixed for 18h and then filtered.

There was no monitoring of the concentrations. The observed effects were biomass and growth rate for which inhibition was measured.

ErC50 has been determined to be > 11.5 mg/L and ErC10 = 7.2 mg/L.
