Description of key information

The vapor pressure of IOA is 0.8 mm Hg at 20°C using a dynamic method per OECD TG104

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Vapor pressure of IOA was assessed in two studies. The determination of the vapor pressure in the key study was based on OECD TG104, and was GLP-compliant. After the first experimental run in the key study, the test sample changed in appearance. There were minor deviations from the test guideline, and the method is restricted to test substances that do not undergo chemical reaction at temperatures below the boiling point. It is therefore considered reliable with restrictions. The supporting study also followed a dynamic method, where IOA had an extrapolated vapor pressure of 0.042 mm Hg at 25 °C. While it is not known whether the supporting study was GLP compliant and sparsely detailed in its report, it also followed a dynamic method similar to the key study; however, it produced dissimilar results. The supporting study’s equilibrium measurements were made in relation to the pot temperature of IOA. In general, the temperature measurements are best represented by the distillate temperature as the liquid will have the tendency to become a super heated liquid near the boiling point. The supporting study covered a higher temperature-vapor pressure range resulting in further extrapolation of the data regression. It is the sponsor’s judgment that the distillate temperature measurements using the dynamic method results provide the most accurate assessment of IOA vapor pressure.
