Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Isooctadecanoic acid is not expected to show any toxicity to algae up to the limit of water solubility (0.24 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study, investigating the toxicity to aquatic algae of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsaturated, branched and linear (CAS 68955-98-6) was used as read across in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. grouping of substance and read across approach, for Isooctadecanoic acid (CAS No. 30399-84-9).

The toxicity to aquatic to green algae, Desmodesmus subspicatus to Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsaturated, branched and linear (CAS 68955-98-6) was tested with WAFs, under static conditions according to OECD 201. No effects on growth rate or biomass were observed within the 72 hour test period being exposed to a 1000 mg/L Water Accommodated Fraction loading rate (NOELR > 1000 mg/L). Thus no effects up to the limit of the water solubility of the test substance were observed (Sewell, 1994).

Based on this result, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the two substances, as are explained with in the over all endpoint summary it can be concluded that Isooctadecanoic acid does not show any toxicity to algae up to the limit of water solubility (0.24 mg/L).
