Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The effect of the substance on the growth of aquatic algae was determined in a study conducted according to OECD TG 201 and GLP. Green algae (Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata) with an initial cell concentration of 1E3 cells/mL were exposed for 72 hours to nominal test substance concentrations of 0.65, 1.3, 2.5, 5.0, 10 and 20 mg/L, a culture medium control and a solvent control. Inhibition of algal growth rate and biomass (as yield) were monitored and all cultures were inspected microscopically at 72 hours. Samples of the test solutions were taken 0 and 72 hours and analysed by gas chromatography. As the measured concentrations declined over the 72-hour testing period, the geometric mean of measured concentrations was used for calculating effect concentrations. Significant differences in growth rate compared to the solvent control (P=0.05) was observed from the 1.3 mg/L test concentration. Based on these findings the 72 -h ErC50 and the 72-h NOErC were determined at 17 and 0.61 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
17 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.61 mg/L
