BASIS FOR CALCULATION OF BCF
- Estimation software: BCFBAF v3.00 of EPIWIN considering the major components of fully hydrogenated coconut oil
- Method: Estimated using the the derived QSAR estimation equation for Log Kow > 7.0:
Log BCF = -0.49 Log Kow + 7.554 + Σ correction factors
(n = 35, r2 = 0.634, Q2 = 0.57, std dev = 0.538, avg dev = 0.396)
Details:
Log BCF from regression-based method = 0.500 (BCF = 3.162 L/kg wet-wt)
Log Biotransformation Half-life (HL) = 1.4377 days (HL = 27.4 days)
Log BCF Arnot-Gobas method (upper trophic) = -0.049 (BCF = 0.893)
Log BAF Arnot-Gobas method (upper trophic) = -0.049 (BAF = 0.893)
log Kow used: 18.04 (estimated)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The estimated BCF of fully hydrogenated palm kernel oil (considering the major components, e.g. trilaurin), according to the BCFBAF v3.00 of EPIWIN, was 3.16 L/kg wet weight.

Executive summary:

The bioaccumulation potential of hydrogenated palm kernel oil was estimated to be 3.16 L/kg wet weight according to the BCFBAF v3.00 model of EPIWIN v.40.The estimation by this method, may be little less accurate as the molecular weight and the Kow range for the different chain lengths of fatty acids are outside the molecular weight range of the training set compounds.

When ingested, the constituent triglycerides are well known to be broken down into glycerol and fatty acids which then undergo beta-oxidation and are used as a source of energy. As such, the substance is not expected to bioaccumulate in aquatic or terrestrial organisms.
