Guidance on Safe Use

First-aid measures

- General advice:

No action should be taken involving personal risk. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before reuse.

- Following inhalation:

IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Monitor victim. Seek medical treatment when anyone has symptoms apparently due to inhalation.

If not breathing, give artificial repsiration and seek immediate medical attention.

- Following skin contact:

IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention.

- Following eye contact:

IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

If symptoms develop, seek medical attention. Treatment by an ophthalmologist due to possible caustic burn of the eyes may be required.

- Following ingestion:

IF SWALLOWED: Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Monitor victim. If symptoms develop, seek medical attention.

- Most important symptoms and effects:

Symptoms may be delayed. In contact, substance may cause irreversible damage to skin and eyes.

Fire-fighting measures

In case of fire: Evacuate area.

Substance is not flammable. In case of fire use extinguishing media appropriate to surrounding conditions.

- Suitable extinguishing media:

Extinguish with carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam or waterspray.

- Unsuitable extinguishing media:

Do not use water jet. Direct water jet may spread the fire.

- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

May decompose in a fire, giving off toxic fumes e.g. carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide.

- Advice for fire fighter:

Fight fire with normal precautions from a reasonable distance. Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire. Avoid release to the environment.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions:

Caution - spillages may be slippery. Do not touch or walk through spillage. Ensure operatives are trained to minimise exposures. Ensure suitable personal protection during removal of spillages. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Contaminated clothing should be laundered before reuse.

- Protective equipment and emergency procedures:

- Environmental precautions:

Environmentally hazardous substance. Do not discharge into drains or the environment.

- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Contain and adsorb large spillages onto an inert, non flammable adsorbent carrier. Transfer to a lidded container for disposal or recovery. Dispose of this material and its container as hazardous waste. See Disposal Considerations for more details.

Ensure contaminated surfaces are cleaned thoroughly.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure operatives are trained to minimise exposures. Use good personal hygiene practices. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Ensure adequate ventilation. In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Stable under normal conditions. Keep container tightly closed, in a cool, well ventilated place. Protect from directly sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures

Ensure material transfers are under containment or extract ventilation. Provide extract ventilation to points where emissions occur. Provide a good standard of general or controlled ventilation (5 to 15 air changes per hour). Atmospheric levels should be controlled using the principles of good occupational hygiene practice.

2. Organisational protection measures

Assumes a good standard of occupational hygiene is implemented and activities are at ambient temperature (unless stated differently).

3. Hand protection

Always wear suitable chemical resistant protective gloves for all operations, tested to EN374 with an acceptable permeation test.

Dispose of contaminated gloves after use. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Recommended breakthrough time: >480 minutes.

Minimum thickness: 0.6 mm

Splash contact

Recommended breakthrough time: >60 minutes.

4. Feet protection

Wear safety or chemical resistant shoes or boots.

5. Body protection

Wear suitable coveralls to prevent exposure to the skin.

Wear eye glasses with side protection according to EN 166.

If splashing is likely, full head and face protection (protective shield and/or safety goggles) should be used.

7. Respiratory protection

Not normally required. In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection.
