Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

One reliable key study is available on the registered mixture. The experimental value for surface tension was determinated to be 41.3 mN/m at 22°C and an average concentration of 1.06g/l. The mixture is considered to have surface active properties.

Additional information

The determination of the surface tension was carried out on the registered mixture using a White electrical institute Co.Ltd. torsion balance for surface and interfacial tension measurements and a procedure according to Method A5 Surface Tension of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, Method 115 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995 and under GLP.

An aliquot of each sample solution was transferred to an individual, previously cleaned measurement vessel (time zero for sample readings). The determination of surface tension is accomplished by means of a tensiometer, using the ring method. The force which is required to withdraw a horizontally suspended ring from the surface of solution is measured.Since the surface tension of a solution in the measurement vessel may alter over a period of time, several measurements were made until a consistent value was obtained. The pH of each solution was measured. The surface tension result was not corrected using the Harkins-Jordan correction table as the correction is not applicable to the apparatus used. This deviation has been considered not to have affected the integrity of the study.

The surface tension of 1.04 to 1.08 g/l solutions of test item in water has been determined to be in the range to 41.3 to 41.4 mN/m at 22.0 ± 0.5°C. Substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m are regarded as being surface active.

So the registered mixture is considered to have surface active properties.
