Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The key study for skin irritation is a read across of a 4 hour patch test in human from tetradecanol (CAS 112-72-1), which finds the test substance not irritating to skin (Henkel, 1996; rel 1). The key eye irritation study in turn, is a read across from hexadecanol (CAS 36653-82-4), which concludes the test substance not to be an eye irritant (Sanders, 1996; rel 1).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Additional information

There was no available data for skin or eye irritation for pentadecanol, branched and linear. Therefore, key information from structurally related compounds was read across for hazard decisions. For this purpose, data from hexadecanol and tetradecanol was used.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available information read across from structurally similar substances tetradecanol and hexadecanol, it is proposed that no classification or labelling is required for pentadecanol, branched and linear.
