Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The measured glass transition points were determined to be

  • Onset point : 60.1°C
  • Endset point : 76.6°C
  • Midpoint of the temperature range: 69.9°C (considered as Tg to simplify)

Tg is a temperature range, rather than a specific temperature. The convention is to report a single temperature defined as the midpoint of the temperature range, bounded by the tangents to the two flat regions of the heat flow curve.

Conclusions:
The glass transistion temperature (Tg) of esters of maleated rosin with glycerol was determined to be 69.9°C.
Executive summary:

The determination of the glass transition temperature range was performed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) in accordance with OECD Guideline 102.

Since the test item is not pure, a range is best to characterize it. The following glass transition characteristics were observed:

  • Onset point : 60.1°C
  • Endset point : 76.6°C
  • Midpoint of the temperature range: 69.9°C (considered as Tg to simplify)

Tg is a temperature range, rather than a specific temperature. The convention is to report a single temperature defined as the midpoint of the temperature range, bounded by the tangents to the two flat regions of the heat flow curve.
