Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Alcohol-resistant foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry chemical

Further information: Do not direct a solid stream of water or foam into hot, burning pools: this may cause frothing and increase fire intensity. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid contact with liquid and vapours. Use personal protective equipment.

Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

Methods for cleaning up: Soak up with inert absorbent material. Shovel into suitable container for disposal.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling: Do not swallow. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid breathing vapour, aerosol and mist. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the project.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge. Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Further information: Reacts with water liberating small amounts of ethanol. No dangerous reaction if used as recommended.

Hazardous decomposition products: Burning can produce the following combustion products: Carbon oxides, Sulphur oxides, Oxides of silicon. Carbon monoxide is highly toxic if inhalated; carbon dioxide in sufficient concentrations can act as an asphyxiant. Acute overexposure to the products of combustion may result in irritation of the respiratory tract.

Disposal considerations
