Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The test item was investigated for its ready biodegradability in a 28-Day CO2 Evolution (Modified Sturm) Test according to EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC C.4-C (1992) and OECD Guideline for Tesfing of Chemicals, No. 301 B (1992) (RCC Ltd. 2003a). The test item was found to be not biodegradable under the test conditions within 28 days. In the abiotic control containing the test item and poisoned test medium, no significant degradation was noted at the end of the 28-day exposure period. In the toxicity control containing both the test item and the reference item sodium benzoate no inhibitory effect on activated sludge microorganisms was observed. In the procedure controls, the reference item was degraded by an average of 84% by exposure Day 14, thus confirming suitability of the activated sludge (>60% degradation by Day 14). At the end of the test (Day 28), the reference item was completely degraded (100%).
