First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Inhalation of this subtance is unlikely in foreseeable
circumstances. However, if inhalation is thought to have
occurred, remove from exposure and give fresh air and rest.
Obtain medical attention for signs of irritation or
difficulty in breathing.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Substance is not classified as an eye irritant. In case of
contact with eyes, irrigate immediately with plenty of water
for 15 minutes and seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Skin: Substance is not classified as a skin irritant or
sensitiser. Remove contaminated clothing, and clean before
re-use. In case of contact with skin, wash affected area
with soap and water. Seek medical attention if irritation
occurs.

Recommended extinguishing agent: The substance is not flammable, but may burn if involved in
a fire. Use carbon dioxide, foam, dry chemical or water
spray.

carbon, reactive organic species), and aluminium-containing
compounds.

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Spillages of the neat substance should be swept up, or
removed with an industrial vacuum machine. Clean the area

enter waste-water systems. Dispose of residues in compliance
with local and national regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: No hazardous health properties have been identified for this
substance. It should be handled using appropriate personal
protective equipment, particularly chemical resistant gloves
and goggles. If dusts are generated wear breathing mask to
prevent inhalation.


The substance is supplied in the EU only as formulation in a
mineral oil. Chemical splash goggles, and impervious gloves
(neoprene) are recommended. Ground containers when
transferring contents.

Storage: The neat substance should be stored in anhydrous conditions,
as it reacts with atmospheric moisture, in a cool place.

Chemical reaction with water: The substance reacts quickly with water to form a keto ester
(which may hydrolyse further to an alcohol and a keto
acid), alkyl diol, and aluminium hydroxide. However, the
reaction is inhibited by the insolubility of the subtance in
water. The reaction and the resulting aqueous mixture are
not expected to be dangerous.

Dust explosion: The neat substance is an aluminium complex, and there is
potential for a dust explosion hazard. However, the
potential is small as the substance is a crystalline solid.


It is supplied in the EU only as a liquid formulation in a
petroleum distillate (bp ca. 250 °C).

reaction is impeded by the insolubility of the substance.
