First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Keep the patient calm. Protect against loss of body heat.

Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.

Advice for the physician: Treat as early as possible using

cortisone spray.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10 - 15 minutes.

Keep eyelids open to rinse the whole eye surface and eyelids

with water. Seek medical advice and clearly identify

substance.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated or soaked clothing. Wash off with plenty

of water and soap immediately for 10 - 15 minutes. In se-

rious cases, use emergency shower immediately. Seek medical

advice and clearly identify substance.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: If consciuos, give several small portions of water to drink.

Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice and clearly

identify the substance.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray, extinguishing powder, foam, carbon dioxide.

However, water jets should not be used for safety reasons.

Product arising from burning: The substance could burn if exposed to high temperatures

releasing hazardous conbustion products such as carbon

oxides (carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide), hydrogen

chloride and chlorine containing compounds.

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Keep un protected persons away. Wear personal protective

equipment and avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters.

Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material

(e.g. earth). Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.

Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Methods of cleaning up: Do not flush away with water. Absorb

with liquid binding material such as diatomaceuos earth and

dispose of according to lacal/state/federal regulations.

For small amounts: Cover with calcium oxide. Contain larger

amounts and pump up into suitable containers.

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Handling and storage

Handling: All working methods must always be designed so that skin and

eye contact with the substance are excluded. Inhalation of

the substance must be avoided. Closed equipment should be

used during filling and metered feeding as well as during

sampling. In the case of handling in open systems, any

vapours/aerosols that can form should be extracted directly

at the point of origin. The extracted air should only be

returned to the work area after adequate cleaning using

tested equipment.

Respiratory protection (e.g. a full-face mask with ABEK/ST

filter or a self-contained respirator if long-term or strong

exposure) should be worn in case technical extraction or

ventilation measures are not possible or are insufficient.

Even if skin contact is only possible for short periods,

tested protective gloves (e.g. PVC) and suitable protective

clothing (e.g. full protective clothing) must be worn. Safe

eye protection (e.g. tightly closing safety goggles) is

absolutely essential. Adequate washing facilities should be

available in the immediate vicinity of the work area and eye

douches should be made available and their location indica-

ted conspicuously. After skin contact, the affected parts of

the skin should be cleaned thoroughly using (:::). Contami-

nated clothing must be changed immediately. Special skin-

protection and skin-care measures are recommended. A skin-

protection plan must be drawn up. Ensure adequate ventila-

tion. Must be syphoned off in situ. Keep away from incompa-

tible substances, for example basic substances.

Cool endangered containers with water. Vapours may form in

closed rooms with air mixtures, leading to explosion in the

presence of sources of ignition, even in empty, uncleaned

vessels. Keep away from open flames, heat and sparks. Take

precautionary measures against electrostatic charging.

Storage: Do not store in containers made of aluminum or other light

metals. Do not store in containers coated with zinc.

For the storage the original packaging drums or other

unbreakable and correctly labelled containers are to be

used. Keep containers tightly closed and secure by suitable

measures against falling down. Avoid product residues on the

packing drums.

Keep in the original container in a cool well ventilated

place. Keep container dry and tightly closed.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material will be

disposed of by incineration. In principle, it may be

possible to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated

material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is

harmful by acute oral exposure, corrosive, and a skin

sensitiser.

No chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise the

hazardous health properties.

The is no dust hazard as the notified chemical is a liquid.

With regards to the enviornment, the substance is very

toxic to  aquatic organisms and may cause long-term ad-

verse effects in the aquatic environment.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases

should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes containing carbon

oxides and chlorine containing compounds could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged directly

tothe sewage system or the aqueous environment. However,

adverse effects on sewage treatment systems would be

unlikely.

public.
