Description of key information

No acute toxicity effects to aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility (<0.12 mg/L).

A limit test investigating the short term toxicity of Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers (CAS No. 61788-89-4) to Daphnia magna was conducted as part of the US HPV program (Kelly, 2002). In this GLP-study according to OECD 202 (1984) no effect on immobilisation was observed at the tested WAF loading rate (NOELR > 1000 mg/L, nominal). Therefore, no adverse effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility.

This endpoint is supported with data from the structurally related category member Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, trimers (CAS No. 68937-90-6). A GLP guideline study according to ISO 14669 was conducted with the marine crustacean Acartia tonsa. No effects up to the limit of water solubility of the tested substance (< 0.37 mg/L) were observed (Källqvist 2004).

Thus, based on the above mentioned results, it can be concluded that Fatty acids, C18-unsaturated, dimers (CAS No. 61788-89-4) or any other substance within the category does not lead to acute toxicity effects to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
