Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, hydrogenated, 2-ethylhexyl esters is not readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The study with Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, hydrogenated, 2-ethylhexyl esters (CAS 68440-06-2) was performed according to OECD 301B (GLP) under aerobic conditions using activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant treating predominantly domestic sewage with a test substance concentration of 12.7 mg/L (Roulstone, 2014). A biodegradation of 49% (CO2 evolution) was observed after 28 d. Since the substance did not reach the pass level for OECD 301B (biodegradation is > 60% after 28 d, 10-day window fulfilled) the substance is not readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria. However, since no plateau was reached after 28 d it is expected that the substance passes the 60% in a prolonged study. Currently the substance can be classified as “inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria”.
