Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item is formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250-mm long and a preliminary screening test performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smouldering occurs. If propagation over 200 mm of the train occurs within a specified time then a full test programme to determine the burning rate is carried out.
Paste-like test item are spread on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate in the form of a rope 250-mm in length with a cross section of about 1 cm2.
Depending on the results of a preliminary test, a main test (burning rate test) will be performed with six assays in order to determine whether the test item is highly flammable (if the burning time of 80 to 180 mm of the pile is less than 45 seconds for non-metallic or non-metal-alloy test items or 10 minutes or less for metallic or metal-alloy test items).
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

Results and discussion

Flammable solids
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Burning time:
> 0 - < 10 s
Remarks on result:
other: two assay were performed

Any other information on results incl. tables

Experimental conditions Humidity About 48% Room temperature About 22 °C Atmospheric pressure 96.3 kPa

Assay No. 1

The test item melted at the contact of the flame. Neither ignition, nor propagation was observed.

Assay No. 2

The same observations as for the assay No. 1 were recorded, but the melted test item located out of the base plate ignited during about 10 s at the contact of the flame.

Main test

Taking into account the results obtained during the preliminary test, no main test was performed.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item was not considered as highly flammable under our experimental conditions.
Executive summary:

FLAMMABILITY OF SOLIDS

In compliance with Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 EC A10 method (2008)

RESULTS

Preliminary test

The preliminary test was performed twice.

Observations in assay No. 1 The test item melted at the contact of the flame. Neither ignition, nor propagation was observed. Observations in assay No. 2 The same observations as for the assay No. 1 were recorded, but the melted test item located out of the base plate ignited during about 10 s at the contact of the flame.

Main test

Taking into account the results obtained during the preliminary test, no main test was performed.

The test item was not considered as highly flammable under our experimental conditions.
