Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Fluorosulfonic Adduct is a liquid at standard conditions, poorly soluble in water (ws = 0.388 mg/L @ 20°C) and with an high Henry Law’s constant (1.6 x 10E6 Pa m3/mol @ 20°C) indicating the tendency to rapidly volatilize from water to the air compartment.

The estimated log Koc = 2.01 indicates a limited affinity for the organic matter, Fluorosulfonic Adduct is expected to be moderately mobile to mobile in soil.

Consequently, if released to the environment, the main compartment of distribution is expected to be the atmosphere.

As other fluorochemical products Fluorosulfonic Adduct is not expected to undergo significant biodegradation in any of the environmental compartments.

There is evidence that the -SO2F group of the molecule may undergo to hydrolysis in alkaly conditions

and followed by acid treatment, to be converted to the sulfonic acid , while hydrolysis of -SO2F group is kinetically disadvantageous at acid and neutral pH at room or higher temperatures (60°C, 70°C and 80°C). No further data of abiotic degradation of the molecule are available.

Due to the distribution coefficient n-octanol/water Log Kow = 1.09 the potential of Fluorosulfonic Adduct to be bioaccumulative in organisms appear to be low.

Additional information

Fluorosulfonic Adduct is used as intermediate under strictly conditions only and therefore no release to the environment is anticipated.
