Description of key information

Testing on similar materials shows that irritancy of these salts are related to the irritancy of the parent acid.

On the basis that propionic acid is considered potentially irritant to skin and eye, it is proposed to classify the salt as Skin Irrit 2 and Eye Irrit 2

The susbtance is pH 3 - 5 suggesting weak acid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

In-vitro testing for skin irritation indicates low level of irritation

Low pH suggests Eye Dam 1
