Description of key information

The Dawson study showed that after 120 hours at pH 4, 7, and 9, and 50 ºC, less than 10% hydrolysis had occurred, demonstrating an equivalent environmental half-life of greater than 1 year at all three pH values. No further testing was necessary, as this investigation indicated that Flumetsulam is hydrolytically stable under acidic, neutral, and basic conditions.
The Lehmann and Miller study showed that under U.S. EPA Pesticide Assessment Guidelines (161 -1), the hydrolysis of the substance was studied at approximately 0.6 ppm, in the dark, at 25 degrees C, in sterile, dilutely buffered water at solution pHs of 5, 7, and 9. The substance was stable to hydrolysis under these conditions, exhibiting no loss of the parent compound after 66 days of incubation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The two studies are both considered reliable and provide consistent results. Dawson J (1995a) was chosen as the key study as this was conducted to an EU test method, C.7, whereas Lehmann RG and Miller JR (1988) was conducted according to an EPA method.

The substance can be considered to be hydrolytically stable.

In the absence of significant hydrolysis a half-life has not been calculated.
