Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

- General advice:

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If you feel unwell, seek medical advice (show the label where possible).

- Following inhalation:

If breathing is difficult, remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Allow the victim to rest.

- Following skin contact:

Remove affected clothing and wash all exposed skin area with mild soap and water, followed by warm water rinse.

- Following eye contact:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Obtain medical attention if pain, blinking or redness persist.

- Following ingestion:

Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel.

- Most important symptoms and effects:

Not expected to present a significant hazard under anticipated conditions of normal use.

- Inidication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:

All treatments should be based on observed signs and symptoms of distress in the patient.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media: Not combustible. If there is a fire close by, use suitable extinguishing agents.

- Unsuitable extinguishing media: None known.

- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

*Fire hazard: Not flammable.

*Explosion hazard: Product is not explosive.

- Advice for firefighters:

*Firefighting instructions: Use water spray or fog for cooling exposed containers. Exercise caution when fighting any chemical fire. Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.

* Protection during firefighting: Do not enter fire area without proper protective equipment, including respiratory protection. Wear a self contained breathing apparatus. Wear fire/flame resistant/retardant clothing. EN469.

Accidental release measures

- Protective equipment and emergency procedures:

For non-emergency personnel:

*Protective equipment: Dust impervious gloves.

*Emergency procedures: Evacuate unnecessary personnel.

For emergency responders:

*Protective equipment: Equip cleanup crew with proper protection. Wear suitable gloves. Dust impervious gloves.

*Emergency procedures: Ventilate area.

- Environmental precautions:

Contains no substances known to be hazardous to the environment.

- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Methods for cleaning up: On land, sweep or shovel into suitable containers. Minimise generation of dust.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling:

Wash hands and other exposed areas with mild soap and water before eating, drinking or smoking and when leaving work. Provide good ventilation in process area to prevent formation of vapour.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Storage conditions: Keep only in the original container. Keep container closed when not in use.

Incompatible products: None known.

Exposure controls / personal protection

- Control parameters for cerium dioxide:

*IPRV = 5 mg CeO2/m3 (Lithuania).

- Control parameters for zirconium dioxide:

*8-h TWA = 5 mg Zr/m3 in most countries.

*STEL = 10 mg Zr/m3 in most countries.

*Check http://limitvalue.ifa.dguv.de/

- Exposure controls:

*Appropriate engineering controls: Avoid dispersal of dust in the air (i.e., clearing dust surfaces with compressed air). Either local exhaust or general room ventilation is usually required. No special work practices are needed beyond the above recommendations under anticipated conditions of normal use.

*Personal protective equipment: Avoid all unnecessary exposure.

*Hand protection: Wear dust impervious gloves. EN374.

*Eye protection: Chemical goggles or safety glasses. EN166.

*Respiratory protection: Where exposure through inhalation may occur from use, respiratory protection equipment is recommended. Use air-purifying respirator equipped with particulate filtering cartridges. EN 12083.

*Other information: When using, do not eat, drink or smoke.

Stability and reactivity

- Reactivity: Normally stable, even under fire exposure conditions, and not reactive with water.

- Chemical stability: The product is stable at normal handling and storage conditions.

- Possibility of hazardous reactions: Hazardous polymerisation will not occur.

- Conditions to avoid: None known.

- Incompatible materials: None known.

- Hazardous decomposition products: Thermal decomposition generates: metal oxides.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods: Dispose in a safe manner in accordance with local/national regulations.

EURLW code: For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) should be used.
